FactionOOC
A group that isn't a place or a shop: the Guard, a guild, the Legion, even the Empire. Factions can have chapters.
A faction is an organisation for a group of people rather than a place or a business: the Solitude Guard, the Companions, the Bards College, the Imperial Legion, a mercenary band.
- It sits under the server, a Hold, a settlement or another faction. A faction under a faction is a chapter (the Legion under the Empire, a guild’s hall in each Hold), up to six deep.
- It has its own members, ranks, letters and documents, like any organisation.
- It starts with the basics only. Server staff can switch on more through its capabilities: trading (a company that sells, an armoury), overseeing its chapters, and later keeping the peace or ruling Holds.
A Hold’s court creates factions under the Hold; server staff create them anywhere.
Who rules, and who keeps the peace
Holds don’t belong to factions. They answer to one, and that can change in the story. Server staff record it. The Empire, or a High King’s court in a civil war, is a faction that rules the Holds that answer to it. The guards of a Hold are usually a faction under that Hold. What guards may do comes with the next update.
