SentenceOOC

What a judgement orders: a fine, restitution, jail, forced labour, exile, or other words. Paid and served in game; recorded here.

A case’s judgement may give one or more sentences:

  • Fine. Septims owed to the court. The court records each payment as it comes in (a fine may be paid in parts), into its treasury only when ticked. What is left can be turned into forced labour. A fine of, say, four times the value taken is worked out by Use value × times: type the value and the times, and it fills in the Septims and how they were reckoned.
  • Restitution. Septims owed to someone named (a victim), not the treasury.
  • Jail. A number of hours in the cells, or until released. It can start when their current jail ends (back to back). Guards whose watch reaches see who is serving time on their Cells page.
  • Forced labour. For a time, or until marked done.
  • Exile. From the court’s Hold, until a day or for good. It goes on the Hold’s roll at once when the accused is a citizen known by a calling card and the judge may exile; otherwise the court sees “Exile to put on the roll”.
  • Other. Anything else, in words (a flogging, the goods forfeit).

A sentence may be added later (a refusal to pay), with why. The court may pardon a sentence: it stays on the record, marked pardoned, and an exile it made is lifted. Coin is never written by itself: every payment is recorded by hand.
