TaxesOOC

A flat weekly tax a Hold (or a ruler) sets on the businesses under it, paid in person and recorded by hand.

A Hold sets taxes on its law book: a flat amount of Septims per real week, and a different amount for stores, stalls or traders if it likes. A ruling faction may tax the businesses with no Hold that it verified.

  • Who owes. Every business under the Hold, verified or not, from the week it opened or moved in.
  • Weeks. A week runs Monday to Sunday (UTC). Each week’s charge appears by itself; unpaid weeks add up as arrears.
  • Changing a tax. A new tax starts this week or later; a change or an end starts next week or later, so a week already charged never changes. Every version stays on the law book.
  • Paying. Businesses pay in person. Whoever may “Record tax payments and waivers” (the Steward to begin with) records the amount, and it can go into the Hold’s treasury. The business gets a receipt in its files.
  • Your coffer. After paying, the business sees a row on its Home to record the coin that left its coffer. Nothing is written until someone confirms it.
  • Waivers and mistakes. The Steward may waive part of what a business owes, or void a payment recorded by mistake.
  • Never blocking. Unpaid tax stops nothing in the app. The court decides what to do about it.
  • Who sees what. The taxes themselves are public on the law book. What a business owes and has paid is private to it and the court.
