Ruling factionOOC
The faction a Hold answers to, such as the Empire or a High King's court. One per Hold, set by server staff.
Holds don’t belong to factions. They answer to one: the faction that rules them, such as the Empire, or a High King’s court during a civil war. Who rules changes in the story, by force or by treaty, and server staff write it down here. The app never decides it.
- A faction that rules Holds has Rules Holds switched on by server staff, over chosen Holds or every Hold on the server.
- A Hold answers to one ruler at a time. While it is contested, it answers to no one.
- Server staff set it from either side: Answers to on the Hold, or the Holds on the faction’s Rules Holds. Handing a Hold to a new ruler takes it from the old one. Every change shows in the audit log of the Hold and of each faction.
- Anyone can see who rules a Hold: its page says Held by …, and the ruling faction’s page lists the Holds it rules.
A faction under a ruler (the Legion under the Empire) can have its watch reach where its ruling faction rules: every Hold its ruler holds, and follows along when a Hold changes hands.
A ruling faction verifies traders with no Hold (its ranks need Verify traders with no Hold; where no faction rules, server staff do it) and issues writs to read the books of businesses and factions in its lands. Warrants, laws and taxes come later.
