WarrantOOC
A court's paper that lets the guards it names search a business or a person, arrest someone, or seize goods. It opens nothing until a guard serves it in person.
A warrant is a court’s order, carried by the people it names. There are four kinds:
- Search a business or faction. Opens its private side for a few days: the books a writ opens (trades, stock, coffer and credit, customers), and besides its members and ranks, titles, the documents in its files (a guard’s reports and statements too), its letters, requests and ownership, a Hold’s citizens and exiles, and taxes. The court chooses which.
- Search a person. For someone in a register who gave a calling card: the papers they hold, their letters and their book of people.
- Arrest. Names someone from a register, or describes someone unknown. It opens nothing; it is the authority to bring them in.
- Seizure. Lets the guard take goods from a business: each line leaves the business’s stock and, if the guard keeps the same item, goes into one of its evidence containers. Coin is taken only by typing the amount and confirming it.
Where. Warrants have one page, Warrants, in the sidebar of the court and of its guards.
Who issues one. A Hold’s court for the businesses, factions and people in its Hold; a ruler where it rules and for traders with no Hold; a faction server staff let issue warrants (such as a ruler’s secret service), wherever the ruler above it reaches. The rank needs Issue, approve and withdraw warrants. On Warrants choose New warrant: what it is for, who (a business, someone from a register, or a description of someone unknown), the reason, and who carries it. Everything it could open is ticked to begin with. A business’s page and a register entry also offer Issue a warrant.
Guards propose. A guard’s people choose Propose a warrant on their Warrants page. The court sees it on its own Warrants page and approves it (it is issued as proposed) or declines it with a reason; the guard is told either way.
Who carries it. Tick a whole guard at once, or name people one by one (20 at most).
Bearers. The court’s own people, those of the orgs below it, and the guards whose watch reaches the place.
Serving. A bearer whose rank may serve warrants marks it served once they have shown it in person, in game. Before that it opens nothing and only the court and the bearers know of it. Once served, the business (or the person) is told, sees the warrant and each time a bearer read something.
How long. 7 days from serving unless the court chooses otherwise, 30 at most (server settings). Unserved, it lapses after as many days. The court may withdraw it sooner; a bearer marks it carried out when done, which closes it. It stops where the court no longer rules.
The warrant itself is a paper in the court’s files.
